Deeper Meaning

Grimm Gestalt’s title has quite a bit of meaning behind it. Gestalt is the German word for an organized whole that is perceived as more than the sum of its parts. Curating over 2,500 pieces of art and illustration, our Design Studio class brought all these pieces into one cohesive book. I was in one of six groups in our class to design a presentation for the Brothers Grimm’s stories.

The Brown Style

Working alongside Gary Hatch, a fellow student in my class, we were assigned the Brown Style. Our style had a unique gothic typeface with a brown and light blue color scheme. It was especially difficult designing around this color scheme. We decided to utilize this challenge by choosing imagery that complimented the warm tones. The spreads shown are the ones that I had a hand in designing the layout and typography.

UVU Art Show & Accolades

Grimm Gestalt received an award of merit in the AIGA 100 Show and was professionally presented by Utah Valley University in an art show. The showing displayed the spreads our Design Studio class created alongside individual pieces of illustrations and photography other departments created for the book.
